Don Shula, like most Americans, has always loved a great steak. When he came to Miami, he couldn't find a great steak at any South Florida restaurant. Therefore, when the Graham Family asked him to partner up to open the first Shula's steak house in Miami Lakes, he knew it was an opportunity he could not pass up. The Graham Family, who were already restauranteurs for decades, are proud breeders of Angus cattle.

Don Shula's goal was to build the best steak house in Miami, which became one of the top ten steak houses, not only in South Florida... but in America. This success resulted in the expansion with a restaurant in almost every NFL city and now Shula's has become one of the top five steak houses in America.

In order to be the best, Don Shula followed the same principles that made him the winningest coach in football history.  He selected the best talent available and gave them the resources they need to succeed. In the restaurant business, that meant serving Premium Black Angus Beef® steaks, the best beef money can buy and providing their South Florida restaurant team with the best training. In terms of the restaurant team, he ran it like a sports team. In sports, one's performance is based on results - either you win or lose. The same is true for the restaurant team. His managers are called Head Coaches and they have the authority to manage the team as they see fit to ensure repeated winning seasons.

Each restaurant is themed after the 1972 Miami Dolphins' "Perfect Season" - the only team in NFL history to finish a season undefeated. The menus are hand painted on an official NFL game football. At Shula's Steak Houses, one of the featured entrees is the awesome 48-Ounce Porterhouse. Those who are able to finish it join Shula's 48-Ounce Club, which currently has more than 26,000 members.
